What Causes Sciatica and How to Treat It?
The sciatic nerve controls the muscles in the back of the knee and lower legs. An irritation, compression, or injury of the sciatic nerve are primary causes of a condition called sciatica. Since the sciatic nerve is the biggest in the human body, the pain can transfer to any area of the body. This includes the lower back, buttocks, all the way to toes.
The irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve is always a symptom of an underlying condition, including spinal stenosis, herniated disc or another degenerative spinal disc disease, muscle spasms, and vertebrae misalignment. Different types of cancer could also be the cause of sciatica.
Short term remedy can be achieved using medication. However, to provide long-term sciatica management, the underlying conditions need to be addressed. Chiropractic care treatments have shown excellent results in remedying sciatica. Since it is often a referred spinal pain, spinal adjustment and decompression are effective therapies. Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy provides notable results in sciatic nerve inflammation reduction, while Physiotherapy Modalities work great with muscle spasms.
